Sheriff
Elmo, who rounds up Cole Bros. Circus pinto pony drill
in center ring, has enjoyed a multi-faceted career in
and out of show business.
After
obtaining an undergraduate degree in linguistics, Elmo
moved on to graduate studies at Clown College in Florida.
Professional training in classic comic routines and
circus arts honed his natural comedic skills, and he
progressed to featured performing roles in major circuses
throughout the United States and Japan. During a stint
as promotional clown for Cole Bros. Circus, Elmo even
ran for President on the platform, “Keep America
Laughing. Put a Real Clown in the White House.”
Disaster
awaited Elmo at the end of the campaign trail, where
he bought the farm. The farm, located in North Central
Florida, turned into a ranch where the reinvented Elmo
raised show quality Shetland ponies. Nostalgia for circus
life lured Elmo away from this pastoral setting, and,
of course, he brought the ponies with him to perform
under the Cole Bros. Circus Big Top.
With
tiny bobble-headed dolls atop their saddles as they
race around the ring, Elmo’s ponies delight young
and old alike. Elmo says he has vowed to remain with
the circus, but as the 2008 election draws nearer, you
might see Elmo hit the trail again!
